Grade 5 Stop Action Music Animation
Students chose found objects and readily available materials to animate action sequences that reflected the style, tempo, and mood of the music chosen for their class. Each class was divided into groups that were assigned a section of that music to animate. They had to storyboard their segment to synchronize as best they could with the timing of the music.

Silent Movies: An Interdisciplinary Extravaganza!!
"King Richard the Lion Hearted, A Crusader's Quest":
The first movie depicts King Richard "The Lion Hearted" as he struggle for peace with Saladin, the Sultan of Egypt and Syria, during the Crusades.
" The Final Plot of Julius Caesar":
In the second movie we hear Julius Caesar reflect on his frustrations of trying to maintain control of his ever growing empire and his growing list of enemies... some who are closer than he could ever dream.
"Queen Isabella's Dreams":
This movie shares Queen Isabella of Spain's inner most despair as Christopher Columbus takes all the credit and glory for his discoveries and does not acknowledge her important role.
"The Dark Side of Socrates":
In his final moments, Socrates comes to grips with his deepest regrets.
These silent movies are the culminating project from an integrated unit involving grade 6 Language Arts, Social Studies, Visual Arts, and Theater Arts. Students chose a famous (or infamous) person from one of the ancient civilizations studied in their Social Studies curriculum. They wrote a monologue based on research on a point in time from their person's life. Some of these monologues focus on lesser known moments from the high profile historical documentation. The students then created scripts for Silent Movies from their monologues, learning from great references such as Charlie Chaplin's "Modern Times". The writers then became directors, casting their scripts and blocking their shots for filming.
